First ladies nail it in Killeen

KILLEEN - First Lady of Texas Anita Perry and First Lady of Arkansas Janet Huckabee put some muscle Thursday behind a newly framed wall in a home under construction and with others lifted it into place.

The wall raising, something symbolically akin to a ground breaking, took place at a ceremony on Anna Lee Drive in Killeen. The home being built for Barbara Bennett involves the efforts of the Fort Hood Area Habitat for Humanity and others.

Mrs. Perry and Mrs. Huckabee arrived as part of the First Families Building Homes Across America - a program that sees wives of governors join other women in wielding tools to construct homes for low-income families.

Nationwide, First Families works directly with Habitat for Humanity and its volunteer arm - the Women Build program and its all-female crew of volunteers. The joint efforts of these groups serves to build decent affordable homes for low-income families that currently live in substandard housing. Lowe
