BELTON - On the opening night of the Belton Fourth of July PRCA Rodeo, the 82nd annual clash between man and animal, Round 1 went to the competitors of the four-legged variety.

During a bulls-only performance that featured just nine PRCA cowboys, only two managed to hang on for the required eight seconds Friday night at Bell County Expo Center.

The David Bailey Rodeo Company stock proved equally tough for the junior bull riders, all of whom were between the ages of 13 and 17. Of the 11 competitors in the first section, only three managed to hang on for the required eight seconds. And of the 13 in the second section, just two accomplished the feat.

Other cowboys and cowgirls will get their chances today through Monday during nightly performances that will also feature the other traditional rodeo events.
