Temple residents see 6-cent hike in gas prices

The average price of regular gasoline in Temple increased 6 cents this week to $2.85 per gallon, according to a survey of 23 stations Wednesday.

Average prices in the state and nation rose 2 cents from last week, inching closer to the $3 mark. According to the American Automobile Association, the national average was $2.98 per gallon and the Texas average was $2.88.

The lowest price in the Temple survey was $2.78 per gallon at the 7-Eleven at Scott Boulevard and 57th Street. The Mobil at the same intersection had regular for $2.79 per gallon, as did the 7-Eleven at Marlandwood Road and 31st Street.

Prices in Temple are about 63 cents per gallon higher than they were this time last year. The U.S. average retail price for regular gasoline is 67 cents higher than last year, the AAA reported.

The demand for gasoline appears to be up compared to a year ago, seeming to refute the premise that higher prices will lessen demand, the Energy Information Administration said Wednesday. Some
