The price in Texas also dropped 8 cents to $2.80 per gallon, the American Automobile Association reported. The national average price fell 7 cents to $2.91 per gallon. This was the second week in a row prices have dropped.
The lower prices were made sweeter because of the general feeling that they would skyrocket after the partial shutdown of crude oil production at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, on Aug. 6. However, national prices were still 30 cents a gallon higher than this time last year.
