BELTON - Without uttering a single comment, the Belton City Council Tuesday annexed an area that was part of a Temple extraterritorial jurisdiction counterproposal, sending a strong message that talks on an ETJ compromise are over.

In all, Belton added 448 acres to its city limits.

Although neither side would say it, any sort of ETJ agreement between the cities appears dead.
