Airport Road collision kills one

Billy Sutton, 41, of Gatesville died in a head-on collision about 5:53 a.m. Thursday on Airport Road, a half-mile east of State Highway 317, reported Lt. Edward Best of the Temple Police Department.

Douglas Wayne Isbel, 38, of Temple was taken to Scott and White Memorial Hospital and was in fair condition Thursday night.

Bell County Justice of the Peace David Barfield, Precinct 3, Place, 1, of Temple pronounced Sutton dead at the scene. He said he hoped to receive an autopsy report this morning from the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.

    Village of Salado Pace Park Restoration Request for Bids The Village of Salado is requesting bids for post-flood restoration work at Pace Park.Bids must be received at the Village Municipal Office, 301 N. Stagecoach Rd, byNovember 2, 2009, 4:30PM. Specifications for the work to be done are enumerated as follows: •Remove miscellaneous metal posts; •Remove or cut flush with the ground the wooden posts along the East side of the roadway; •Distribute/spread out the washed up gravel evenly, filling in holes; •Repair/replace the gate on the South end of the roadway; •Install 5 foot lengths of 4 ˝ inch diameter pipe (steel or aluminum) on 4 foot centers along the line where the wooden posts were removed. Pipe shall be set 30 inches into the ground in concrete and the pipes shall also be filled with concrete. The steel pipes that were removed may be repurposed for part of this task at the discretion of the contractor; •Paint the newly installed posts using paint appropriate for the metal being painted; •Dispose of unused pipe, wooden posts, other construction materials and the remainder of the trash piles in accordance with all state, county, and local ordinances. There will be a pre-bid meeting on Thursday, November 12th @ 10:00AM at Pace Park, Salado, to discuss specifications or other terms of this solicitation.
