At its Feb. 1 meeting, the council approved a 3.1 percent increase and a performance plan for its general government employees.
The pay raises stem from a 2005 study by an Austin consulting company. The city chose a market-based approach outlined in the study and included an annual pay plan adjustment. The market-based approach allows the city to compete with comparable cities to attract and retain employees, according to officials.
Fire and police plans were last adjusted in October 2006, according to officials.
The total estimated cost for the recommended public safety increases is $262,000 in fiscal 2007. The 2007 budget has $650,000 in the compensation contingency account to fund pay-plan adjustments and performance-pay increases, according to the city.
The council will also heard an initial report from Kendig Keast Collaborative, the Sugar Land company hired recently to update the city
