Storm lifts Bell

Temple received a heavy rain of up to 3.70 inches but dodged major wind damage and flooding, while under a tornado watch Sunday night and early Monday morning.

The runoff caused 14 manholes in Temple to overflow, reported Shannon Gowan, city Communications Director. She asked residents to be cautious in the affected areas, which should be cleaned and disinfected by Wednesday evening. She said she received no reports of any road closings or flooding in the city.

Salado Creek ran high enough to close the northbound service road of Interstate 35 in Salado, said Dennis Baker, Bell County emergency management coordinator. Early Monday he had received no reports of any wind damage in the county.

Templeweather.net reported an east-northeast wind at 42 mph. The National Weather Service reported wind gusts to 47 mph about 5:30 a.m. Monday at the Temple airport.

Charles B. and Jan Hart, who live on Clarence Road north of Temple, found a large hackberry tree blown down near their backyard fence when they got up Monday morning.
