Twister rampage: Deadly storms sweep from the Rockies into the Plains

A tornado touches down in a rural area south of Silverton in the Texas Panhandle. A massive thunderstorm sweeping through the region produced heavy rains, hail and winds up to 70 mph.
AMARILLO - As residents in the Texas Panhandle cleaned up after storms that killed one and injured at least four others, people in some North Texas counties were facing flooding on Thursday night.

Some 4 to 5 inches of rain had fallen over Navarro County and heavy rains continued pouring over the region south of Dallas. Interstate 45 and Highways 31 and 22 were closed and some spots had 2 feet of water, said Eric Meyers, Navarro County Emergency Management coordinator.

Numerous traffic accidents and several water-trapped vehicles had been reported, along with high-water rescues, Meyers said.
