As of Friday, March 23, the Pentagon listed 3,229 deaths of U.S. military members in Iraq since the war began March 2003, according to the Associated Press.
As the war entered its fifth year, the Temple Daily Telegram visited with three local families who lost their sons to the conflict to see if attitudes had changed.
