Once the tank was hoisted to the top of the tower, workers welded it into place and sandblasted before putting the lid on beginning today. The hoisting was scheduled for Wednesday, but high winds delayed the project.
Nicole Torralva, assistant city engineer, said the new tower is replacing an aging structure that was built in 1939. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has said the city had to renovate or replace the old tower, which will be demolished as early as later this year. With its increased size, the new structure will accommodate growth in the area.
