County museum gets a new coordinator

BELTON - There’s a new program coordinator at the Bell County Museum in Belton.

Her name is Adrienne Lilley. She fills the post left vacant by Jodi Wright Gidley, the new director of the Galveston County Historical Museum.

“She’ll be the person who works with schools and other groups to organize tours,” said Stephanie Turnham, museum director. “She’ll also work with volunteers, organizing hours and assigning tasks.”

Ms. Lilley will also be responsible for the upkeep of the museum’s “travelling trunks” - mobile educational units that schools and other groups can borrow at no cost.

“I’m excited to be here in Bell County,” Ms. Lilley said. “I’m looking forward to getting to know the community and the local families.”

One of her goals is to increase the adult educational opportunities available at the museum.

“Everybody always seems to be focused on what’s out there for kids. I think the adults get overlooked,” Ms. Lilley said. “Right now, we’re talking about implementing a photography lecture series. Just because it’s education for adults doesn’t mean it can’t be fun.”

Her work with the photography program coincides with the staff’s aim of enhancing the museum experience from one of observation to one of participation - the goal Ms. Turnham has for the entire museum.

“Adrienne is a great addition to the staff and what we’re doing,” Ms. Turnham said. “She’ll be able to help us design and implement interactive components for all museum exhibits.”

A Baylor alumna, Ms. Lilley holds a master’s degree in museum studies in addition to a bachelor’s degree in religion and English. She comes to Bell County from the Historic Waco Foundation where she served as youth educator and communications and membership manager.

She and her husband, Steve, live in Eddy with their two daughters.

The Bell County Museum is at 201 N. Main St. in Belton. The hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free, and guided tours are available. For information, call (254) 933-5243.
