Services for Salome Lopez Jr., 81, of Temple will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Ranjan Cletus officiating.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery with military honors.
He died Friday, May 4, at his home.
He was born in Falfurrias to Salome and Petra Lopez Sr. He joined the U.S. Army in 1944 and served as a rifleman in the European Theater during World War II. He married Angelita on June 15, 1952. He worked for the Texas Department of Transportation for 33 years before retiring. He had been a resident of the Temple area since 1986.
Two granddaughters preceded him in death.
Survivors are his wife, Angelita Lopez of Temple; four sons, Hector Lopez of Temple, Arnoldo Lopez of Temple, Jose Luis Lopez of Tucson, Ariz., and Faraon Lopez of Hopewell, Va.; a daughter, Mary D. Vessey of Temple; a sister, Juanita Lopez of Falfurrias; a brother, Jesus Lopez of Falfurrias; 13 grandchildren; and a great–grandchild.
Visitation is 6–8 p.m. Monday with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Harper–Talasek Funeral Home.
