Services for Verna Belle (Green) Wood, 79, of Belton will be 2 p.m. Friday at Sheffield Funeral Home in Temple with the Rev. Wiley Zinn and Larry Townsend officiating.
Mrs. Wood died Tuesday, June 5 at her residence.
She was born in Hopkins County to William and Ruby (Ward) Green. She was reared and educated in Hopkins County. She married D.W. “Woody” Wood on Sept. 6, 1946, in Sulphur Springs. She had been in the Temple, Belton, Moffat area for the past 38 years. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Belton and was a foster parent for eight years. She owned and operated Cedar Creek Truck Stop from 1971 until her retirement in 1987.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996.
Survivors are four sons, Jerry Wood of Bryan, William Wood and Frankie Wood, both of Temple, and Kenny Wood of Moffat; four daughters, Patsy Linker of Sulphur Springs, Mary Kirkham and Cathy Luther, both of Belton, and Shirley Green of Moffat; one sister, Floy Caudle of Sulphur Springs; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Scott and White Hospice, 2401 S. 31st Street, Temple 76502.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
