Services for James Vernon Berry, 88, of Temple will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Rosemound Cemetery in Waco.
He died Thursday, June 21, at a Temple hospital.
Mr. Berry was born in Sherman to James and Addie Newton Monroe. He worked 19 years as an electrician at the Central Texas Veterans Hospital before retiring. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on May 31, 1945, and served in the Philippines during World War II. His military awards include the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star.
After the war, he moved to Temple. He was a charter member of the American Legion in Temple. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Elaine Berry and a son, James Carl Berry.
Survivors include two sons, Roger Berry of Lufkin and Ronald Berry of Whitehouse; two daughters, Judith Carollynn Phillips of Elliottville, Ind., and Nancy Elaine Berry of Taylor; one brother, Walter Kenneth Berry of McAlester, Okla.; three sisters, Julia Fleck of Farmington, N.M., Hellen Powell of McAlester and Betty Kieth of McAlester; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple.
