LAMPASAS — Services for Alma LaVerne Townsen, 85, of Lampasas and formerly Alvin will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas with the Rev. Raymond Harper officiating.
Burial will be in Townsen Cemetery near Adamsville.
Miss Townsen died Saturday, June 23, at a Temple hospital.
She was born in Lampasas County to Clarence Townsen and Bernice McCann Townsen.
She was a schoolteacher. She taught the fifth grade eight years in Lometa. In 1949, she moved to Alvin where she taught the fifth grade for 30 years.
She graduated from Lometa High School in 1938. She received a bachelor’s degree from Daniel Baker College. She also attended the University of Texas.
She joined Adamsville Presbyterian Church as a child and was a member of the Presbyterian Women’s Group, Texas State Textbook Committee, Delta Kappa Gamma, Alvin Retired Teacher’s Association and Texas State Teacher’s Association.
