Pamela Melton, 44 of Milano, Delilah Denise Melton, 22, of Milano and Brittany Johnson, 2, of Milano were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 5:50 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Twila Harris of Rockdale, according to Bryan Department of Public Safety.
Both of the adults were wearing seat belts. The child was not wearing a seat belt or in a child safety restraint seat.
Banetria Johnson, 4, of Milano was taken to Scott and White Hospital and is in critical condition with head injuries and Doby Johnson, three months, of Milano had no injuries and was taken to Scott and White. Neither child was in safety restraints.
The driver, Pamela Melton, was driving a 1995 Chrevrolet SUV south on U.S. 190 when she crossed over into oncoming traffic, according to the DPS.
In an effort to get back into the correct lane, Ms. Melton corrected her path and the car began to skid. She then over corrected to the left and the vehicle rolled over the north side of the roadway, according to DPS reports.
DPS Trooper Mark Berry of Cameron investigated the accident. Weather conditions at the time of the accident were clear and dry, the DPS said.
Pamela Melton was taken to Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron. Delilah Melton and Brittany Johnson were taken to Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.
