First Cavalry holds memorial service for 15 fallen soldiers

FORT HOOD - The First Cavalry Division lowered its eyes and bowed heads during a Thursday memorial service to honor 15 soldiers killed in Iraq during November and December.

Families of the deceased, their friends and soldiers of the rear detachment filled the First Cavalry Division Chapel on Battalion Avenue during a 90-minute service that heard eulogies for the departed delivered by their comrades.

Col. Larry Phelps, rear detachment commander for the Cav, delivered a memorial tribute. He said the service honored soldiers from east to west and mid-America.
