Luther Jones

Services for Luther Douglas Jones, 70, of Adamsville will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, in First Baptist Church of Adamsville with the Rev. Jerry Stratton officiating.

Jones died on Saturday, Jan. 20, in his residence.

Born Aug. 12, 1936, Jones graduated from Lampasas High School in 1955. In September 1960 he joined the Austin Police Department, where he served until March 1970.

He was made a deputy U.S. marshal in Dallas at that time. He served as chief deputy for 10 years until his retirement from the U.S. Marshal Service in August 2003.

Luther was a member of the First Baptist Church of Adamsville, Thomas B. Hunter and Mountain Creek Lodge in Grand Prairie and a member of the Bee House Lodge in Evant.

He was a 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason and York Rite Mason.

He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a lifetime member of both the International Guard Association of Texas and the U.S. Marshal Posse of North Texas.

Survivors are his wife, Ann Jones of Adamsville; four daughters, Sharon Mayer of Garland, Betty Ann Quicksall of Dallas, Pamela Hope Brack of Red Oak and Jacquelyn Pierce; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Burial will follow the services at Straley Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Adamsville.
