Regular fell 8 cents from last week to an average of $1.99 per gallon. Occasionally, there have been individual stations with the price below the $2 mark. But Temple Daily Telegram records show no regular gasoline average below $2 since June 2005.
The lowest price in the survey was $1.94 at the BP off Interstate 35 near Nugent Avenue, which also had the lowest diesel price of $2.27 per gallon. The Mobil at Scott Boulevard and 57th Street matched that price for diesel.
The Shell at Avenue M and 31st Street had the next lowest price for regular of $1.95 per gallon. Two stations had regular for $1.96 per gallon, the Pay-Less at Avenue R and 1st Street, and the GK Mart at Avenue M and 29th Street.
The national average price for regular fell 7 cents from last week to $2.14 per gallon, the American Automobile Association reported. The Texas average fell 6 cents to $2.05 per gallon.
Corpus Christi had an average price of $1.91 per gallon, among metropolitan areas reported on by the AAA. Beaumont-Port Arthur had regular for an average of $1.99.
The average price for regular in Austin-San Marcos was $2.13 per gallon. In San Antonio it was $2.05; in Dallas and El Paso it was $2.04. Houston had regular for an average of $2.02 and Texarkana for $2.01.
Among the surrounding states, Oklahoma had the lowest average price for regular of $1.92 per gallon, the AAA reported. Arkansas had regular for an average of $2.03 per gallon, followed by Louisiana with regular for $2.07 and New Mexico for $2.13.
