The deadline to reserve tickets for the annual J.A.I.L. Ministry fund-raising banquet has been extended to Thursday, Oct. 18. The event is set for Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 6:15 p.m., at the Bell County Expo Center. Tickets are available for $15 each or $120 for a table of eight.
The banquet is the primary fundraiser for J.A.I.L., or Jesus Acts in Inmates’ Lives Ministry. It was started 22 years ago by the late chaplain, Harold Ellis. It includes Bible studies in the Bell County Jail, Right Turn Youth Academy and other programs in support of inmates, their families and the law enforcement officers who work with them.
Mamie McCullough, Ph.D., also known as the “I Can” lady, will be the speaker. She worked with Zig Ziglar for 10 years as a speaker and author before forming Mamie McCullough & Associates in 1989.
Organizers said she will share life-changing principles instrumental in providing others with ideas, suggestions and facts on how to “get life together.”
Ms. McCullough uses her background and personal experiences to connect with her audience. Her goal, organizers said, is to encourage, inspire and elevate her listeners to believe that “it’s not what happens to you - it’s what you do with what happens to you that counts.”
Committee members planning the banquet are Lou Nichols, Kathie Kimes, Priscilla Montgomery, Joyce Tuggle, Jeannette Kelley, Sharon Ellis, Catherine Mason, Taffy Martin, Linda Ringler, Jan Muske, Janice O’Banon, Heidi Couchman, Susan Cain, and Noelle Dula.
Michelle Ellis Kimery will provide musical entertainment. The daughter of founder Ellis and his wife, Sharon, it was Kimery’s selection of the song “Finally Free,” that set the theme for the banquet.
The theme is further based on 1 Peter 4:10 which states, “God has given each of you some special abilities; be sure to use them to help each other, passing on to others God’s many kinds of blessings.”
Dinner will be catered by Las Casas. The Rev. Gary DeSalvo will serve as master of ceremonies.
In addition to tickets, corporate sponsorships are available at $1,000, $500 and $250. Call (254) 933-8506 for information or to reserve tickets.
