Life
An old-fashioned get-together
There’s aprons with pockets, buttons, flowers and lace, says Doris Voltin. There’s goofy aprons, elegant ones and aprons so worn, they’re practically transparent. A trip through the display boards at the Westphalia school museum is like a trip through apron history, full of the protective garment’s odds and ends. The display will be featured Sunday in the Westphalia Little School Museum during the 101st picnic and homecoming of The Church of the Visitation. The church’s convent, which recently underwent an extensive renovation, will be open for visitors. There people can examine displays on veterans and the Westphalia Waltz. And farm tools will be on display in Uncle Rubin’s Farm Shed. Sausage, home-fried chicken, Westphalia noodles, home-baked cakes, coleslaw, green beans and iced tea will be available 11 a.m to 6:30 p.m. The Praha Polka Band will perform noon to 3 p.m., and Route 4 will entertain 8 p.m. to midnight.
