Fabulous fashions and food will set about 800 people on the path towards a “Holly Jolly Christmas” Nov. 15 at the Altrusa International, Inc., of Temple’s annual Taste of the Holidays event.

But ticket sales end Friday, and because club members do all the cooking themselves, no tickets will be available at the door. The price is $25 per person or $192 for a reserved table of eight. Reservations may be made by calling (254) 770-4800.

The Temple High School Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of James Flowers, will provide Christmas music as guests enter into the hall and style show music will be provided by Jim Kerby of Temple

The event’s highlight will be a fashion show produced by Sherri’s The RoseBud.

“There will be everything from casual sports separates to luxurious formal ware for the holidays,” according to fashion show moderator Betty Thrasher. “It’s always fun to get dressed up but the holidays are a special time for family and friends to celebrate together.”

At the entrance to the Mayborn Center, a large Christmas tree will be displayed complete with presents trimmed in red, green and gold ribbon. Where guests dine, tables will also contain beautiful packages wrapped in red, green and gold. Holly topiary trees will line the stage and the model’s runway. Precious Memories will donate and decorate the tree staged by the orchestra.

Throughout the event, guests will enjoy a variety of dance routines represented by students from Gabrielle’s Dynamic Plus.

“With continued support for our club from this community, we can make a difference to many people in our area,” states Altrusa President, Robbie Ritchie. As stated in the club’s principles, “Altrusans are committed to the philosophy of unselfishness, the joy of giving rather than getting, and to the search for that happiness which is based upon spiritual worthiness.”

Altrusa International, Inc. of Temple uses the proceeds of its annual Taste of the Holidays to support its many community projects including college scholarships, international students, Temple Community Free Clinic, Project Apple Tree, Families in Crisis, Central Texas Art Competition, Children’s Literacy, Ronald McDonald House, and Communities in Schools.

Chair Sharon Tomlinson and co-chair Tamara Clothier along with the decorations committee, Chris Scherer and Nancy Spencer have been hard at work organizing and creating the “Jolly” setting. Barbara Sorge has organized the entertainment and Priscilla Hill has served as fashion chair.

Doors for the 21st annual Taste of the Holidays will open at 11 a.m. with the show starting at 11:30 a.m. in the Frank W. Mayborn Civic and Convention Center. Honorary and memorial donations will be acknowledged in the program.
