Local man wins truck, money in national contest

A local man is counting his blessings and the number of trips he’ll make to a local sporting goods outlet in his new pickup after he won the Red Seal Good Stuff Sweepstakes promotion, sponsored by the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company.

“My wife has been telling me to quit for years,” said Jonathan Fox, who has been dipping snuff since he was 14-years-old. “I’m just like any other tobacco user. I quit for a couple weeks, a month or six months, but I end up going right back to it.”

Fox, 34, who has been known to go through a tin or two of smokeless tobacco a week, said he started receiving information in the mail about the sweepstakes several months ago, and decided to enter the contest.

According to the rules, contestants could enter once a day online, and that is what Fox did.

“The days I thought about it, I’d put in an entry, but I could not begin to tell you how many times I entered,” Fox said.

Last month, Fox learned he was the national grand prize winner and that he’d receive a 2008 Ford F-250 pickup and $10,000 worth of gift cards from the BassPro Shop.

“I’d kind of been waiting around on this, and it has finally all come to a head,” Fox said.

Fox said he has seen his new pickup, and even got to test drive it recently, but for the most part, his wife Delores will be holding the keys to that vehicle.

“I have a company vehicle,” Fox said.

Meanwhile, Fox has already thought about how he’ll spend his gift certificates.

Fox said he has his eye on a couple of rifles and a compound bow, but he’ll also be taking a few lucky friends out for a little shopping.

“I’ve got about 20 people I told I will take to BassPro with me and let them pick something out,” Fox said. “Just kinda trying to share the wealth a little bit.”

Of course, he hasn’t forgotten about other things he might need.

“I’ll get a few things for around the house and I’ll outfit the truck,” he said. “I mean, $10,000…you can’t spend that quickly.”
