H. J. “Jay” DuBose

BELTON — Graveside serves for H. J. “Jay” DuBose, 84, of Belton will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in North Belton Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Margaret Boles officiating.

He died Friday, Nov. 16, at his home.

Mr. DuBose was born in Belton to Tom DuBose and Gladys Forrester DuBose. He graduated from Belton High School as salutatorian. He attended the University of Texas and graduated with a degree in journalism. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war he worked for the United Press in Washington, D.C. and later joined Remington Rand in New York City. He returned to Bell County where he worked at the Temple Daily Telegram, which led to a position with the Odessa American. He moved to Dallas-Fort Worth where he worked at advertising agencies.

After retiring to Bell County he formed the Jay DuBose and Company band and entertained at various events, the Temple Civic Theater and churches around the area.

He is survived by a nephew, Tom Wicker of Salado.

A luncheon will be at 11:30 a.m. following services at the First Presbyterian Church of Temple.

Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton is in charge of arrangements.
