Services for Johnnie Gayle Henson Lips, 94, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple with Robert Baugh, Loyd Hall and Doug Martin officiating.
Burial will be in Dyess Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Lips died Saturday, Dec. 1, at a Temple nursing home.
She was born in Bell County to John S. Henson and Pearl Tucker Henson. She was a graduate of Stringtown school and had attended Heidenheimer school. She was also a graduate of Washington School of Art in Port Washington, N.Y. She sang alto as part of the Henson Family Quartet. She married Arnold Lips on Dec. 5, 1931. He preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 1978. She became a member of the Church of Christ at an early age and had been a member of churches in Stringtown, Heidenheimer and Avenue T church in Temple. During World War II she was employed at McCloskey General Hospital in food service, where she was a supervisor. She later worked in retail at Buttery’s C.R. Anthony Co. and Career Girl. Since 1968, she taught fundamental art principles and oil painting in her home studio.
Survivors are two daughters, Dianita Lips Driver of Temple, Rachel Lips Martin of Snyder; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild.
Memorials may be made to Cherokee Children’s Home in Cherokee.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
