Last week, Briles chose Baylor, replacing Guy Morriss as the Bears’ football coach. And on Monday, senior quarterback Griffin announced he was sticking with Briles and that he will attend Baylor next year.
Griffin has passed for 1,243 yards and 17 touchdowns and pushed for 1,056 yards and 24 scores, leading the Bulldawgs to within one win of their second consecutive Class 4A state championship game.
But Griffin’s true strength might be on the track, where he is the state record holder in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles.
Griffin decided to make the announcement Monday to focus exclusively on Cove football because several colleges still had tried to contact him. He plans to graduate this month and enroll at Baylor in the spring to begin the process as soon as possible.
