The six men, ranging in age from 18 to 22, didn’t know the victim, police said.
Belton Police Investigator David Jessup said the rape, which happened on Aug. 31, was reported to police two days later.
Jessup said the rape happened at the Belle Oaks apartment complex in south Belton, where a friend of the victim lives. The two friends apparently went to the friend’s apartment that Sunday.
“They were just being kids and hanging out,” Jessup said.
Two of the six suspects also live at the Belle Oaks apartment complex, and may have seen the victim and her friend arrive.
Authorities declined to provide too many details on the case since it is under investigation.
“All I can tell you is that she was at an apartment, and an incident occurred that was reported to the Belton Police Department,” Jessup said. “We investigated, and identified the six suspects in the case, screened it with the Bell County District Attorney’s office and they issued warrants for all six suspects.”
The six men were identified as Ivan Crumbliss, 18; Daniel Chaney, 19; Bradley Moffett, 21; Jonathan Medina, 20; Johnny Ray Embers Jr., 22; and Christopher Alexander Smith, 20.
All of them are in the Bell County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail.
Chaney and Media both have previous misdemeanor criminal records.
Chaney was on probation on a burglary of a vehicle conviction from July, and Medina plead guilty in June to possession of a dangerous drug and criminal trespass.
Meanwhile Jessup said it took six months for the police to close the case because they were still trying to positively identify everyone involved.
“We had to identify all the suspects, speak with all of the witnesses, speak with the victim and the victim’s parents,” Jessup said.
