Darkness halts UMHB home opener vs. UT-Brownsville in 13th inning

Mary Hardin-Baylor catcher Ricky LaFont tags out UT-Brownsville
BELTON - Mary Hardin-Baylor enjoyed its baseball home opener so much, the Crusaders decided to extend it another day.

UMHB and Texas-Brownsville were knotted at 5-5 through 12 innings early Friday evening when darkness fell on Red Murff Field, forcing the game to be suspended until today. The opener of the three-game series will resume at 11:30 a.m. today, followed by the regularly scheduled doubleheader.

The Crusaders (1-0) and Scorpions rallied at different times, but both also squandered chances to win and get out of the numbing, cold conditions.

UMHB had a runner picked off second base for the second out in the bottom of the seventh and had runners thrown out at the plate in each of the next three innings.
