GEORGETOWN — Services for Owen Kenneth Johnson, 87, will be 3 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Georgetown with Dr. John Duncan and Dr. David Griffin officiating.

Burial will follow in IOOF Cemetery with military honors.

Mr. Johnson died Wednesday, Jan. 16.

He was born on Sept. 18, 1920. He was raised in Schwertner and he attended the University of Texas. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in World War II in Africa and Italy. In 1945, he was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant. He married Betty Sue Whitworth in August 1945. He returned to the University of Texas and obtained a business degree followed by a law degree in 1948. He then moved to Wichita Falls where he served as president of the Wichita County Bar Association and was later elected by the Bar Association to serve as a district judge. He was elected mayor of Wichita Falls from 1960-1962. He chose not to run for a second time and went back to the practice of law for the next 52 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wichita Falls where he served as an Elder for several years. In 2000, he and his wife moved back to Williamson County where he practiced law in Georgetown. He retired in November 2007 after practicing law for more than 59 years. While in Georgetown he was a member of the Rotary Club of Georgetown, a member of the Board of Directors of Schwertner State Bank, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Georgetown. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 55 years in 2002. He married Mary Lou Johnson in 2004. She preceded him in death in May 2007.

Survivors are a son, Frank Johnson of Denton; and two daughters, Mary Ricks of Temple, Pam McMahen of Georgetown; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Gabriels Funeral Chapel in Georgetown.
