KILLEEN — A Mass of Christian Burial for retired Chief Warrant Officer Shirley Klein, 85, of Killeen will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Burial will follow in Killeen City Cemetery.
Ms. Klein died Sunday, Jan. 20, at a Harker Heights nursing home.
She was born Dec. 21, 1922, in Chicago to Henry J. Klein and Ann Marie Orosz Klein. She graduated from Tuley High School in June 1940. She joined the Army in October 1952. Her tours of duty included a tour in Japan. She retired on June 30, 1978, at Fort Hood. Her military awards include, a Bronze Star Medal, Legion of Merit, Army Commendation medal w/one Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal w/one Oak Leaf Cluster, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/10 year device, Meritorious Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal w/three Bronze Stars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/Palm. She was active in the Humane Society. It was at the Second Chance Animal Shelter that she rescued more than 200 cats. She was also a member of the American Business Women Association.
Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Friday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen.
