Murder trial opens Monday: Woman charged with daughter’s death in 2007

BELTON - The first of eight murder trials scheduled in Bell County this year is set to get under way Monday in 27th District Court.

Kahtisha Shontel McKn-ight, 25, of Killeen, is charged with the murder of her 2-year-old daughter on May 18, 2007.

Mrs. McKnight’s daughter, Jameisha, had a fractured skull and died from blunt-force trauma to the head, according to court records.

Mrs. McKnight told investigators three different accounts about how her child sustained the injury, according to court records.

Medical records used in the case indicated that the severity of Jameisha’s injuries were not consistent with the trauma her mother described.

Assistant District Attorney Mike Waldman will serve as the lead prosecutor in the case. Michael White, a local defense attorney, will represent Mrs. McKnight.

Jury selection will start at 9 a.m. with Judge Joe Carroll presiding.
