Norwyn Brooks

LAMPASAS — Services for Norwyn Brooks, 95, of Lampasas will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas with minister Elvis Fisher and minister Reid Schaub officiating.

Burial will be in Rock Church Cemetery in Rumley.

Mr. Brooks died Tuesday, Jan. 29, at a Lampasas nursing home.

He was born Dec. 2, 1912 in Wheeler County to Jim Brooks and Edith Brooks. His family moved a number of times, living in west Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. The family moved back to Texas and they settled in Lampasas. He attended Clayrock School. He married Rachel Meredith on Dec. 24, 1935. He began working on his farm. He was later drafted and finished basic training just in time to land on Omaha Beach during World War II. After he returned home he became a carpenter and a homebuilder, and moved to Lampasas. He was a long time elder in the Church of Christ.

Survivors are his wife of 72 years; a son, Cecil Brooks of Johnson City; three daughters, Jeanie Fullingim of Kyle, Joyce Halden of Round Rock, Shirley Wilborn of Lampasas; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
