Graveside services with military honors for Curtis Noland Strong Sr., 97, of Salado will be at 2:15 p.m. Monday in Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
He died Wednesday, Jan. 30, at a local living center.
Mr. Strong was born Nov. 11, 1910 in Kansas City, Mo. to Earnest Y. and Helen Guater Strong. In 1932 he married Willie Mae Hood in Goliad. He served his country over 30 years in the U.S. Air Force. He served during World War II and helped build landing airstrips near Omaha Beach shortly after the invasion. He was an aircraft maintenance technician and was stationed in San Antonio when groundbreaking took place for Randolph Air Force Base. During his military career he was awarded with the Air Force Longevity Service Award w/one Silver and one Bronze OLC. He was also a life member of the Perfect Union Masonic Lodge in San Antonio. He was preceded in death by his wife.
Survivors are a son, Curtis N. Strong Jr. of Salado; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple.
