Luis Carlos Tapia-Rivera

KILLEEN —Services for Luis Carlos Tapia–Rivera, 75, of Killeen will be 9:30 a.m. today at Crawford–Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen.

Burial will follow in Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with full military honors.

Mr. Tapia–Rivera died Sunday in a Temple hospital.

He was born April 26, 1932, in Carolina, Puerto Rico, to Miguel Tapia and Irene Rivera.

He served in the U.S. Army for more than 24 years and was involved in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Army, he worked for 21 years for the Texas Department of Corrections. He also was a champion gold medal–winning boxer for the U.S. Army team, and the Puerto Rican team in the Pan American games.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Maria Curete Tapia of Killeen; a son, Luis Carlos Tapia of Plano; two daughters, Maria Luisa Sosa and Lurene Tapia, both of Killeen; three brothers; six sisters; three grandchildren; and seven great–grandchildren.
