He was born Nov. 24, 1945, to Alfred M. and Lucy V. Barboza Acuna in Berkley, Calif. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his mother of San Pablo, Calif.; three sisters, Marina McFerran of Fremont, Calif., Karen Doane of Fresno, Calif., Leesa Munoz of Stockton, Calif.; and one brother, Mark Acuna of Hercules, Calif.
