GATESVILLE — Services for Jack Mitchell, 75, of Gatesville will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Gatesville Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles McKamie officiating.

Burial will follow in Pidcoke Cemetery in Gatesville.

Mr. Mitchell died Wednesday, Feb. 13, at a local nursing home.

He was born on July 8, 1932, in Coryell County to the late Foster O. and Bertha Robinett Mitchell. He grew up and attended school in the Harmon Community and Pidcoke, graduating from Gatesville High School in 1949. He worked at Fort Hood as a civil service employee retiring in 1990 after more than 30 years of service. He married Oleen Kelly Chambers in 1976 and they resided in Gatesville, moving to the Harmon community in 1985. He was a member of King Baptist Church. He was a farmer, rancher and a volunteer fireman for many years in Gatesville, where he served as the former fire chief and fireman of the year. He was appointed by the governor to the State Commission on Fire Prevention and Fire Protection. He was the former president of the Central Texas Fireman’s Association. He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years.

Survivors include three sons, Richard Mitchell, Kevin Mitchell, Ricky Chambers; two daughters, Karen Blanchard, Charlene Chambers, eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 15 at the funeral home.
