BARTLETT — Services for Vernie Chester Marshall, 86, of Bartlett will be 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Bartlett.
Burial will follow in Bartlett Cemetery.
He was born Jan. 11, 1922, to Vernie Caldwell Marshall and Mary Hickerson Marshall in Little River. He graduated from Acadamy High School in 1940. He enrolled in Texas A&M, joining the Corp Cavalry. He served stateside and in the Asiatic Pacific Theater 1943-1946, then returned to Texas A&M to graduate in 1946. He earned his master’s in education in 1957.
He was an agriculture teacher at Bartlett High School for 38 years. Early in his career, he coached the girls’ basketball team to a state championship in 1950. In 1961, he married Kathleen Johnson Wacker. After retiring from education, he served as a Bartlett school board trustee and was the executive director for the Bartlett Housing Authority from 1986-1997. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1998, and stepgrandson.
Survivors include three daughters, Shelley Aiken, Kim Belk, and Nancy Jackson; and six grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Teinert Library in Bartlett.
Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. today at Goodnight Funeral Home in Bartlett.
