Temple’s leading goal scorer scored three goals against Bryan to lead the Wildcats to a 3-1 victory and finish the first half of District 13-5A play without a loss.
“He just finds a way to score,” Temple coach Matt Corley said. “And right now the important thing is that we are thrilled to be 5-0-1 in district play.”
Coles scored his first and last goals off throw in passes, and scored the second from about 7 yards out. He now has 36 goals on the season - three shy of the school record.
“I hope he breaks it just so we can move on and stop talking about it,” Corley said with a laugh. “But he’s such a humble kid. He understands it’s great to have the record but he’s all about the team.”
And Corley was glad to see the team perform as well as they did Tuesday night.
“We were kind of weary about going to Bryan,” Corley said. “It’s been several years since we beat them up there. I’m just happy to get out of there with a win.”
The Wildcats (15-1-3) will host Killeen Shoemaker at 8 p.m. Friday at Woodson Field.
