Anthony ‘Tony’ DiGirolamo

CAMERON — Services for Anthony ‘Tony’ DiGirolamo, 85, of Cameron, will be 1 p.m., Friday, at Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron.

Burial will follow in Little River Cemetery in Jones Prairie.

Mr. DiGirolamo was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Nicolo and Barbara DiGirolamo. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in the mid 1930’s fighting forest fires in Idaho. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946 and was stationed at Fort Hood and served in the Philippine Islands. He married Mary Ellen Atkinson of Cameron on Feb. 4, 1944 and settled in Elmont, N.Y. He worked for the City of N.Y. in various capacities including the N.Y. City Police Dept. He was co-owner and operator of an automotive repair shop with his two brothers. After retiring, he moved back to Cameron in 1979. He was a member and served as quartermaster for the VFW Post #2010 in Cameron.

Preceded in death by his wife of 61 years.

Survivors include two sons, Anthony DiGirolamo Jr. of Bordentown, N.J. and John DiGirolamo of Jones Prairie-Cameron; two daughters Barbara Ruggiero of Moody and Mary Ann Tullo of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Little River Baptist Church, 4304 FM 979, Cameron, Texas 76520 or the VFW Post 2010, Temple Hwy, Cameron, Texas 76520.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., today at the funeral home.
