Edgar Leon ‘Mac’ McReynolds

Services for retired U.S. Army Maj. Edgar Leon ‘Mac’ McReynolds, 88, of Temple will be 2 p.m., Friday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Mesa officiating.

Burial will follow in Bellwood Memorial Park with full military honors.

Maj. McReynolds died Wednesday at his home.

He was born July 11, 1919 in Belleville, Ark., to John and Lillie Davidson McReynolds. He was a graduate of Council Hill High School in Okla., in 1938. He attended Olkahoma A&M, which is now Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla. He served in the U.S. Army in the infantry in World War II, serving in the European Theater and was involved with the D-Day invasion. He received the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart for his service. He also served in the Korean War. He retired as a major with more than twenty-one years of service. After retiring from the military he worked for the Civil Service Administration at Fort Hood. He married Rose Etta Cartwright in October of 1946.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years of Temple; and three sisters, Mary Ellen Paden of Sacramento, Calif, Melba Smith of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Sue Hamm of Sunnyvale, Calif.

Memorials may be made to Oak Park United Methodist Church in Temple.

Visitation will be 6-7 p.m., today at the funeral home.
