Temple lost 5-3 to Abilene and 4-2 to Cedar Park in its second game of the day, dropping the Wildcats to 4-4 on the season.
“They answered our two runs (in the fourth inning),” Temple coach Larry Haynes said of the Cedar Park game. “We weren’t able to hold two leads today.”
Temple and Cedar Park were tied at 2 before the Timberwolves scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning.
Pitcher Kevin Lock (1-1), who struck out six, suffered his first loss of the season.
Abe Garcia had a triple, C.J. Reid smacked a double and Cory Ellison had a pair of singles for the Wildcats.
Against Abilene, a three-run fifth inning by the Eagles doomed the Wildcats, who mustered five hits.
Michael Lollman (1-1) picked up his first loss, going seven innings.
Kevin Lock (triple) and Andrew Rayas (double) had extra-base hits for the Wildcats.
“We left a couple on and then in the middle innings their pitcher settled down,” Haynes said. “It’s difficult to score runs when you don’t have any runners on.”
Temple continues pool play today with a pair of games at Georgetown. The Wildcats play Austin Stephen F. Austin at 9:30 a.m. and Wylie at noon.
