The Indians never stood a chance in the opener against the Tigers (9-0), who belted four home runs and got standout pitching from Dillon Newman.
Shane Hoelscher hit for the cycle. Hoelscher, Newman and Seth Alcozer blasted back-to-back-to-back homers in the second inning, and Alcozer (4-for-4) went deep again to fuel the rout.
Newman (2-0) yielded three hits and the lone run in six innings.
“Keller is typically near the top of the teams in the Fort Worth area, but our kids came out swinging the bat today,” Belton coach David Tidwell said. “It’s neat to watch these kids because they are playing so well right now.”
The Tigers carried the momentum into their matchup with the Eagles, who couldn’t muster a hit against senior Jacob Phillipe (2-0).
Phillipe, who teamed with Brett Hernandez on a no-hitter last week against Corsicana, issued one walk.
Alcozer bashed his third homer of the day, and Garrett Vail had a double and a triple to power the Tigers at the plate.
“The guys have it rolling right now, and we just don’t want to do anything to end it,” Tidwell said. “I’m wearing the same socks for every game, just in case.”
Belton will continue pool play today at Cedar Park with games against Austin McCallum at noon and San Angelo Central at 2:30 p.m.
