Man charged in death of wife

A man arrested early Saturday morning in connection with the shooting death of his wife has been formally charged.

Officials said James Graham, 52, of Temple made the 911 call early Saturday morning, and seven Temple patrol officers responded, arriving to the 200 block of South 27th Street to find Graham’s 56-year-old wife, Rosie Graham, suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Sgt. Brad Hunt of the Temple Police Department. She was transported to Scott & White Memorial Hospital, but the injury proved fatal, Hunt said.

Detectives interviewed Graham and followed up with neighbors in the area but the case is still under investigation, officials said.

James Graham is in Bell County Jail and bond has been set at $250,000.

“There is a history of domestic violence with this house,” Sgt. Allen Teston said. The police have been called to this house in the past, he said. Within the past year, James Graham had been placed on probation for domestic disturbance.

Domestic violence is a big issue in America and officers deal with it on a daily basis, Teston said.

“In most of these cases where domestic violence is present in the home it never gets better, it always gets worse,” he said. “It normally starts out with verbal assault of actions and it progresses from there and once it becomes physical it never turns from there.”

Local police encourage those who are dealing with domestic violence to get help. The police are willing to help anyone who suffers from this abuse and the crime victim’s compensation is a program that helps victims pay rent and shows them how to live on their own, Teston said.

“You should never feel foolish calling the police. If it turns out to be nothing, well then, that’s good. That’s the ultimate outcome we want,” Teston said.
