After College Station A&M Consolidated’s third baseman made a two-out error in the sixth inning, Skylor Alford delivered a three-run, go-ahead double to propel Belton to a 6-3 District 13-5A home victory.
“This is a huge win, especially because we know Consolidated was 3-0 in district and beat Bryan 2-1 Thursday,” said Belton coach Matt Blackburn, whose team moved to 15-5 overall and 2-1 in 13-5A. “It was a tight game and both teams were on their toes all game. We needed a little luck and got it.”
With Belton and Consolidated (13-10, 3-1) tied 3-3 in the sixth, Alford’s double off Jessica Chastka scored Victoria Alcozer, Krystal Faber and Jessica Whitley. Reliever Brynne Steger (6-2) pitched 2 1/3 innings for the win.
