LAMPASAS — Graveside services for Arthur Paul Smith, 73, of Oakalla will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Smith Cemetery in Oakalla with the Rev. Clay Cole officiating.
Mr. Smith died Friday in an Austin hospital.
He was born March 3, 1935 to H.H. “Buck” Smith and Thelma Lockman Smith in Oakalla. He graduated from Lampasas High School in 1953 and attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville. He graduated from the Texas Department of Public Safety Training Academy. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. He returned to DPS working in various departments moving from El Paso to Del Rio, and finally in 1971 to Lampasas. He was a rancher, a member of Oakalla Baptist Church, a life member of NRA, he was instrumental in creating the Oakalla Volunteer Fire Department, was on the board of the Oakalla Community Center and the Oakalla Library. Preceded in death by a grandson.
Survivors include his wife, Laquetta Smith of Oakalla; two sons, Randall Smith and John K. Smith, both of Oakalla; a daughter, Genna Terry of Lampasas; a brother, Hansford Smith of Lampasas; and seven grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Smith Cemetery at Oakalla or the Oakalla Volunteer Fire Department.
Family visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas.
