Temple senior Murdoch repeats as all-state selection

Temple senior Kaetlyn Murdoch was selected to the Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 5A All-State Team for the second consecutive season.

Murdoch, a Denver signee, was District 13-5A’s Defensive Most Valuable Player the last two seasons.

The 6-foot Murdoch paced this season’s Tem-Cats at 13.4 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. She also led Temple in assists, blocked shots and steals.

Murdoch was joined on the TGCA’s 30-player 5A all-state list by Killeen Shoemaker senior Danika Dale, the 13-5A MVP. Academy junior Cortney Poncik was a TGCA all-state selection in 2A.

Harker Heights junior Bobbi Taylor was the only area girls player on the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches 5A All-State Team.

Area girls on the TABC all-region teams were Murdoch and Taylor in Region II, Copperas Cove senior Shacoria Cooper in 4A Region II, Poncik and Salado freshman Hadley Joiner in Region IV and Bruceville-Eddy junior Arianna Rodriguez in 2A Region III.

Joiner, one of two freshman girls on the 2A Region IV list, helped lead Salado to a 14-0 record in 25-2A.

Killeen senior Tre’ Nichols, who led the state-ranked Kangaroos to the 16-4A championship, was the only area boys player on a TABC all-state squad, receiving one of 20 positions on the 4A list.

Nichols and junior teammate Cory Jefferson were TABC All-Region II choices.

The area’s other all-region players were Killeen Ellison senior Louis Crane in 5A Region II, Lampasas junior Heath Hopson in 4A Region IV, Gatesville’s tandem of senior Will Davidson and sophomore Dominique Moore in 3A Region III, and Jarrell sophomores Kreece Cooper and Aaron Mueller in 2A Region IV.
