But after dominating Cisco twice Saturday, the Leopards have split two doubleheaders at home and swept two on the road in their first two four-game series in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference.
TC used strong pitching by Tristan Gaines and Hunter Scott and Michael DeLaRosa’s 4-for-4 performance to beat Cisco 5-0 in the first game, then Nick Anders had three doubles and a triple to lead a 19-hit attack in a 21-3, seven-inning romp over the Wranglers.
Holland graduate Paul Spinn pitched five innings to earn his first college win in the finale and Courtney Behrend added two scoreless innings as TC improved to 15-11 overall and 6-2 in the NTJCAC.
In addition, the Leopards’ defense - which struggled at times in a home split with Cisco (19-8, 4-4) on Wednesday - did not commit an error in 16 innings.
“We got good pitching, played two solid defensive games and got a lot of hits when we had runners in scoring position,” Temple assistant coach Frank Kellner said. “We talked about being tied for first place with Cisco and that if we’re going to win the conference championship, this was our chance to separate.
“We had good intensity and it seems like we’ve had better intensity on the road.”
Former Temple Wildcat Gaines scattered seven hits and had three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings to win the opener, and Hunter Scott threw 1 2/3 for the save. DeLaRosa drove in two runs and Hunter Bell added an RBI.
In the second game, every player in TC’s lineup had at least one hit, including Garrett Raburn with three. Anders had three RBI.
TC’s next conference doubleheader is against Hill on Wednesday in Hillsboro. The Leopards then will host the Rebels at 3 p.m. Friday at Danny Scott Sports Complex.
