Police were called to the 3800 block of East Drive at 1:30 p.m. about a domestic incident. While officers were on their way to the residence, they were informed dispatch had received reports of shots fired.
A husband and wife gardening in their front yard on East Drive in Temple heard arguing followed by two gunshots. “I was just gardening when we heard the arguing and then shots fired,” Annette Young said.
“This is a lovely, quiet area. I didn’t know what gunshots sounded like. My husband told me,” she said. “We went inside and called 911.”
The house on the corner of Cherry Lane was surrounded by police cars that came from everywhere, said another neighbor. “They put police tape around the house. I didn’t know what happened,” she said.
Young said that police surrounded a woman.
“We heard them say ‘drop it, drop it!’” Mrs. Young said.
The woman was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to a press release from Sgt. Allen Teston, public information office for the Temple Police Department.
A man involved in the domestic dispute was not injured, however a family pet, a dog, was found at the residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, Teston said.
The animal was taken to a local veterinarian by Temple animal services unit for treatment. The dog’s condition is unknown, he said.
“The dogs lived in the garage at the home and were often roaming around the area,” Mrs. Young said. “I hate when an animal is hurt.”
The investigation is ongoing, Teston said. Upon completion, it will be screened by the Bell County District Attorney’s office.
