Rigoberto Martinez Jr. is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Goldsin Nimnuan, 25. The killing occurred in the early morning hours of Jan. 12, 2007, at 1515B Janis Drive in Killeen.
Nimnuan died of gunshot wounds to his head, neck and back. Police found four .25-caliber bullet casings on the kitchen floor beside him, according to court records.
Police say they have evidence that places Martinez at the scene within two hours of the shooting. The murder weapon and bloody clothes were found at the residence where Martinez was staying in the 1500 block of Leader Drive, according to court records.
Nimnuan’s roommate, Jennifer Figueras, said she heard several gunshots while in her room at the duplex, then jumped out a window and called police just after 4 a.m.
Another man who had been at the residence that night led police to the home where Martinez was staying.
Police say they met with the owner of the home, Martinez’s cousin, who agreed to a search. Police found Martinez and clothing that matched what witnesses said Martinez was wearing that night, including a gray sweat-jacket with fresh bloodstains on it, the arrest affidavit said.
Police also found a .25-caliber semiautomatic pistol in the backyard, matching the caliber of the bullet casings found next to Nimnuan’s body, the report said.
The nature of the dispute between the men has not been released but is expected to come to light in the trial.
Belton attorney Paul Lepak will represent Martinez. Leslie McWilliams will handle prosecution duties for the state.
A first-degree murder conviction has a punishment range of five to 99 years in prison.
